Privacy Policy
Effective 5 October 2026
Merc helps you with the things you buy and own. You tell it what you need or what is going wrong; it researches and compares options, prepares a purchase up to the seller's own checkout when you say yes, remembers what you own — its receipt, warranty and upkeep — and follows a return, repair, claim, delivery problem or cancellation through until it is resolved. It is operated by Memriq Holdings, Inc. ("Memriq", "we"), which is the controller of the personal information described here. Merc never buys anything without your yes to that one purchase, never takes or stores a card, and never sends a message or contacts anyone for you.
What Merc collects
- Your account — your name and email address, and a password or your Google sign-in. One Memriq account signs you in to every Memriq service; being let in to Merc is decided separately, by invitation.
- What you need — what you are looking for, who it is for, your budget, where and when you need it, what matters to you and your answers to Merc's questions, and the options found for it with the page each fact came from.
- What you own — for each item you keep: what it is, where and when it was bought, the price, its serial and order numbers, warranty, return window, accessories, manuals, upkeep schedule and resale estimate.
- Purchases you confirmed — one record for each purchase you said yes to, with the item, seller, price, delivery and return terms, and the order confirmation you gave Merc.
- Cases — a return, repair, warranty claim, delivery problem, refund or anything else Merc is following through for you: its steps, deadlines, who has to act next, the coverage answers found, the messages Merc prepared for you and whether you sent them, and the outcome.
- Evidence you add — photos, receipts, documents and links you add to an item or a case. Files are kept with your Memriq account's attachments.
- Price watches, orders, projects and repeat purchases — the exact item and variant you asked Merc to watch and the prices it read; the orders you are tracking and the date you need them by; a project's items, budget and ready-by date; and, when you ask Merc to buy the same thing again, the details it found in your records or in an order history file you upload.
- Things you buy regularly and your subscriptions — quantities, timing and decisions you make about them; recurring charges found in your Reckon records if you use Reckon; and, if you choose to cancel something, the option you authorised, the confirmation you received and whether a later charge appeared.
- Other people, when you add them — the name and the requirements of someone you are choosing with, and what each of you agreed. A person you invite who has a Memriq account sees only what you shared with them.
- Your purchase memory — why you chose something, what happened afterwards, and how satisfied you were.
- Shopping paperwork from your email, if you connect it or forward it — when you ask Merc to look, it reads messages that look like an order confirmation, a receipt, a shipping notice, a warranty or a reply about one of your cases. Each message is read once, in memory, and never stored. Merc keeps only the facts you choose to keep, with who sent the message, its subject and its date.
- Your calendar, if you connect it — read only to suggest times when a delivery, a visit or a repair could happen. A free slot is never treated as another person's agreement.
- Your settings — including how far Merc may act on its own, and what Merc showed you each level allows.
Merc does not buy information about you and does not add to your record from anywhere else.
How it is used
- To understand what you need, research and compare options, and show each fact with the page it came from and when that page was read.
- To prepare a purchase you approved and open the seller's own checkout. You pay the seller there; Merc never sees your card.
- To remember what you own and tell you when a warranty, return window, upkeep task or renewal is due, as reminders and to-dos in Helm on your own account.
- To follow a case through: work out the next step with you, prepare a message for you to send from your own email, and read the reply when it arrives in the mailbox you connected.
- To watch a price on the seller's public page and tell you when it changes. A watch never buys.
- To find things you could cancel, prepare the cancellation for you to authorise, and check later charges to see whether it took effect.
- To send the messages you asked for, such as a waiting-list confirmation or an invitation.
We do not sell or share your personal information, and have not in the past twelve months.
Who can read it
Everything Merc stores about you — what you need and own, serial and order numbers, purchases, cases, evidence, watches, subscriptions, the people you added and the facts kept from email — is sealed with a key belonging to your account before it is stored. Only your account identifier, internal record identifiers, a record's state and the times it was written are not sealed; none of those says who you are or what you bought.
What leaves Merc, and when
- When Merc researches or watches something, a web search provider receives the search words for it, and the seller's or maker's public page is read by Memriq's browse service, which identifies itself honestly, obeys each site's rules for automated readers and reads public pages only. Your name and email are not sent.
- When you send a message Merc prepared, you send it from your own email, to the recipient you chose.
- When you pay, you pay the seller at the seller's own checkout.
Services that process it for us
- Railway — runs Merc's servers.
- MongoDB Atlas — stores Merc's records, sealed as described above, in the United States.
- OpenAI — the language model Merc uses to understand a need, compare options, read a message's shopping facts and write its plans in words.
- A web search provider — receives the search words for something Merc is researching.
- Cloudflare — receives the receipts you forward to your Merc address and passes them to Memriq.
- Resend — delivers the emails described above, through Memriq's one sender.
- Google — signs you in, if you choose Google, and holds the email or calendar you connect.
- Stripe — handles payment for a paid Merc plan, if you ever choose one, through Memriq's billing service. Merc itself never sees card details.
How long it is kept
Your account and Merc data are deleted within 30 days of your account closing. Support messages are kept for 2 years, server logs for 90 days, and billing records, if you ever have any, for 7 years. Backups can hold deleted data for up to 35 days before it is gone from them too.
Deleting it, or getting a copy
Deleting your Memriq account deletes everything Merc keeps, and downloading your Memriq data includes it. You can also write to privacy@memriq.ai: we acknowledge within 5 business days and finish within 30 days. The same address gives you a copy of what we hold, or corrects it.
If you are in the EU or UK
We rely on the contract with you to run Merc, on our legitimate interests to keep it working and secure, and on your consent for anything else. Your information is processed in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses. You may complain to your local data protection authority.
